Saudi Arabia has announced estimated resources of around 114 million tonnes of ore in the Jabal Sayid project in the Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah region, containing rare earth minerals and uranium concentrations, alongside plans to develop a local value chain extending to the production of yellowcake.
The announcement was made by Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, during the Kingdom's address at the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The Minister stated that exploration work and geological studies at Jabal Sayid revealed the presence of approximately 114 million tonnes of ore containing high concentrations of rare earth minerals, especially heavy elements, alongside what he described as promising concentrations of uranium.
The Minister added that pilot works, conducted in cooperation with the French company Orano, showed encouraging economic indicators, according to the Saudi side's assessment. The Kingdom is also continuing its initiative to survey the sedimentary cover with the aim of exploring more uranium ore from its conventional sources.
On the nuclear energy front, Abdulaziz bin Salman confirmed that Saudi Arabia is working to introduce nuclear power into the national energy mix, referring to the cooperation agreement on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, known as the 123 Agreement, which the Kingdom signed with the United States last July.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Minister stated that the implementation of the specific safeguard arrangements, associated with the cooperation between the two countries, will be under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, affirming the Kingdom’s continued development of its regulatory and oversight system for nuclear energy.
Al Waie Magazine:
The rulers of Al Saud have not been content with squandering the wealth of the Islamic Ummah on what does not please Allah (swt)—such as buying football clubs or entertainment programs for astronomical sums, or opening the Bilad ul-Haramayn (بلاد الحرمين Land of the Two Sacred Masjids) to dancers and corruptors. Now, they even seek to exploit the issue of resources, like uranium, to grant the colonialist disbelievers additional “influence” in the country by appointing them as supervisors over what is permitted for work, including military aspects. Evil is what they judge.
