Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah Türkiye: Events Protesting the Ban on the Khimar in Azerbaijani Schools!

At the call of Hizb ut Tahrir / Wilayah Türkiye, Muslims gathered in the Tuesday 13/10/2026 evening outside the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara and the Azerbaijani Consulate in Istanbul to protest the ban imposed by the Aliyev regime on the headscarf, which is one of the obligations of Islam.

A dress-code regulation adopted in Azerbaijan on September 21 introduced a ban on headscarves in schools. As Azerbaijanis took to the streets against this oppression under Aliyev’s leadership, support for this significant resistance also came from Türkiye.

Press statements organized by Hizb-ut Tahrir Wilayah Türkiye were delivered in Ankara and Istanbul.

The statement outside the Azerbaijani Embassy in Ankara was read by theologian and author Abdullah Imamoglu, while the statement outside the consulate in Istanbul was read by Muhammed Emin Yildirim, Member of The Media Office of Hizb-ut Tahrir Wilayah Türkiye.

In the press statement, the following words were addressed to the Aliyev regime, described as a friend of Zionists:

“You have sought to disregard the faith-steeped history of these lands, conquered centuries ago by the Companions of the Prophet, and the sacred values of the true sons and daughters of this ummah. We know of your hostility toward Islam from your friendship with the occupying Jewish entity that is brutally killing our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Today, under the name of ‘secularism,’ you are inflicting on believers in these lands the same repression and oppression that the Soviet atheist regime inflicted yesterday. You cannot remove the crown of dignity that Allah has placed upon our women’s heads through bans imposed to please a handful of your Western masters! We will never allow you to do so.”

The statement went on to address the ruling AK Party, which had made no statement about the ban, as well as the troll mentality that accuses sincere Muslims who refuse to remain silent in the face of oppression of ‘serving Israel’:

“If the headscarf is one of your values, why have you not said a single word about the oppression over headscarves in Azerbaijan? Why this silence? Is remaining silent in the face of injustice not the conduct of a mute devil? Is the headscarf no longer a value that deserves to be defended loudly? What happened to your brotherhood and kinship? You ignored the atrocities in East Turkestan. You did nothing to secure the liberation of Muslims in Gaza. Will you now abandon the Muslims who were abandoned yesterday at the Boraltan Bridge? Will you once again sacrifice the values of Muslims for petty worldly interests, as you always have? If so, we say to you in the words of the Messenger of Allah: ‘If you feel no shame, do as you wish.’”

In the final part of the statement, the following appeal was made to the Aliyev administration:

“O oppressive Aliyev regime, our final word to you is this: Keep your hands off the hijab of our Muslim sisters. Revoke this ban immediately! Trust neither your throne, nor your masters, nor your henchmen! Fear the wrath of Allah and the uprising of this oppressed ummah! Today there may be no leader to put a stop to your arrogance and oppression. But tomorrow, when the Rightly Guided Caliphate State is established, an accounting will be demanded for all the oppression committed against Islam and Muslims.”

Takbirs (“Allahu Akbar”) were frequently proclaimed during the statements. Chants included: “Hands off the hijab!”; “The hijab is a matter of honor and cannot be banned!”; “Muslims cannot remain silent in the face of oppression!”; “Aliyev, the oppressor and enemy of Islam!”; “Aliyev, the puppet and friend of Zionists!”; “Aliyev, keep your hands off the hijab!”; “Long live hell for the oppressors!”; “Türkiye, wake up and stand by your brothers and sisters!”; “We would give our lives for Allah, the Qur’an, and the hijab!”; and “One state, one ummah, one solution: the Caliphate!”

At the event in Istanbul, theologian and author Dr. Abdurrahim Sen and activist and author Sükrü Hüseyinoglu each delivered a speech on the issue. The press statements concluded following prayers.
