News Right Now: Retaliation and Restraint
Today’s episode will be diving into recent events in Turkey. Last week, the Turkish Aerospace Industries (also known as TUSAS) headquarters was attacked in Ankara. Within less than a day, Turkey placed the blame on a Kurdish militant group called the Kurdish Worker’s Party also known as the PKK and launched an airstrike in northern Iraq and Syria, killing over 60 people, 12 of them confirmed civilians. This violent and speedy attack was carried out before any group, including the PKK, claimed the attack on TUSAS and to this day no claim has been made.
The bloodshed between Turkey (a majority Muslim country) and the PKK (consisting of Kurds who are also majority Muslim) has been ongoing since the 1980s, causing the death of tens of thousands of brothers and sisters from our Ummah. The decayed foundation upon which this suffering and bloodshed is justified is none other than that which our beloved Prophet Mohammad SAW called rotten- nationalism. Our Prophet (saw) condemned nationalism, the idea that the unification and superiority of a people is derived from simply the nation they were born in, in the strongest of ways.
«مَنْ قَاتَلَ تَحْتَ رَايَةٍ عُمِّيَّةٍ يُقَاتِلُ عَصَبِيَّةً وَيَغْضَبُ لِعَصَبِيَّةٍ فَقِتْلَتُهُ جَاهِلِيَّةٌ»
"The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: 'Whoever fights for a cause that is not clear, advocating tribalism, getting angry for the sake of tribalism, then he has died a death of Jahiliyyah.'" (Sahih- Darrusalaam)
Brothers and sisters, I encourage us all to reflect on Turkey’s hasty response to retaliate against the attack on its Aerospace industry headquarters when the death toll of our mothers, fathers, sons and daughters of Gaza has risen to 43,000 with not a single bullet fired from Turkish forces. When it comes to infighting, the bloodshed of fellow Muslims, Turkey has shown us it can act with swiftness and brutality. But when it comes to the criminals, murderers, those who will surely receive the wrath of Allah (swt) in the Hereafter, Turkey stays still and silent. Erdogan restrains the Turkish forces against the kaffir occupiers and shows no mercy to those of our Ummah, enacting the exact opposite of verse 29 of Surah Fath where Allah (swt) tells us:
[مُّحَمَّدٌۭ رَّسُولُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ مَعَهُۥٓ أَشِدَّآءُ عَلَى ٱلْكُفَّارِ رُحَمَآءُ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ]
"Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allah. And those with him are firm with the disbelievers and compassionate with one another."
This swift retaliation that Erdogan has carried out speaks volumes to the rest of the Ummah- it emphasizes the power and capabilities of the Turkish forces while highlighting its disgusting and shameful misplacement of its resources. Turkey has continued to play the act of the perfect colonizer’s pet with this act of retaliation, moving only to deepen conflict within the Ummah because this is what interests and benefits the Western powers, while turning a blind eye to the Ummah’s suffering. This is the complete opposite of what our beloved Prophet Mohammad (saw) has taught us.
Abdullah ibn Umar reported: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, circling around the Ka’bah and saying, “How pure you are and how pure is your fragrance! How great you are and how great is your sanctity! By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the sanctity of the believer is greater to Allah than your sanctity, in his wealth, his life, and to assume nothing of him but good.” When Erdogan was elected into office, many Turkish Muslims were hopeful for a leader who would rule by Islam. This hope was misplaced. The Turkish regime is a supporter of the enemies and an enemy to the Ummah. The complete hypocrisy shown by Erdogan in innumerable ways since his appointment proves this. The only system that can bring back the justice and light of Allah’s law on this Earth is Khilafah Rashidah, established on the method of the Prophethood.
