Within 24 hours, 47 refugee camps have been totally distorted along the borders of Turkey! With strong winds going up to 80 kilometers per hour and a temperature as low as -14C in these refugee camps. More than a foot of snow falling causing tents to collapse while other tents have been taken by the wind, leaving refugees stranded in the open air. 69 tents were totally destroyed. Each tent would hold 10-15 individuals, and more than 2 million needed better shelter, for these tents were old and weak- barely able to uphold any form of winter weather. One of the tents that had collapsed had collapsed on a family, where one child was killed while his mother was sent to the intensive care unit.
Other than the collapsing tents was the bitter cold. “Everything is freezing! We need help!”, says a refugee who had lived in one of the camps for four years. People were barely able to keep their families warm. Because of the extreme poverty, they couldn’t afford it! It would cost $50-75 per month to keep a family warm, and that is a luxury for the majority who live on less than $2 a day! Over the past 6 months prices have gone up: diesel went up 19% and petrol went up 36%. After facing a devastating war, they now deal with greed and even fall in the dangers of human trafficking!
For when the war broke out over 10 years ago, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed by the airstrikes caused by the Syrian and Russian forces. Internally displacing 260,000- which is now pushing to another 848,000 in need! And after 10 years of this devastating war, 6.7 million have been displaced, which makes it the world’s worst refugee crisis since World War II! Some live in neighboring countries, like Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon. But what is to happen to them if they decide to return?
Well, horrific acts of torture, arrests, and enforced disappearance by the Syrian security and intelligence forces. There were 66 refugees who decided to return. 13 of them were children who returned in 2017 to the spring of 2021 from Lebanon, France, Germany, Turkey, and the Rukban Camp (on the Syrian-Jordanian border). Five of them had died in their custody, and there were 14 cases of sexual violence by security forces. 7 of them were Rape: to five women, a teen, and a five year old.
Bashar and his Shabiha (state militants) have caused massive damage to homes, infrastructure, and even mosques. Thinking everything belongs to them. And if anyone was to speak up against them, they would kill or oppress them! Not distinguishing between male or female, between old and young, or even children and infants! They are heartless tyrants!
What about the neighboring countries? How do they treat the refugees? Well, they would close the borders in their face, not allowing them in. While others who had got in became the blame for the crisis that rose within the country. Such as Denmark, Germany, Lebanon, and Turkey had made campaigns full of incitement and racism. Blaming these innocent refugees for being the reason for the economic crisis brewing within their countries. Even asking that they were to be sent back! Sent back to death!
It is also very hard to wrap our minds around the fact that in the span of 10 years all kinds of buildings have been erected yet these helpless victims of this conflict are supposed to survive in tents?! This shouldn’t be the charities responsibility to provide for them but rather those on government levels should be the ones who uphold the Islamic bond, the brotherhood between us and take care of them!
But those who plotted against the Muslims, our brothers and sisters, will get what they deserve! For not only did we witness all over the news! Not only did our brothers and sisters living in this dire situation witness the corruption, but Allah (swt), the lord of the worlds, who can crush them in an instant has witnessed. And their revolution will end once and for all, soon! When Allah (swt) blesses us with a Khaleefa (Caliph) who will pursue these culprits to their graves.
(يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ وَأَنَّهُ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ)
“O believers! Respond to Allah and His Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allah stands between a person and their heart, and that to Him you will all be gathered.” [TMQ 8:24]
