 Press Release
European Parliament Neo-Colonial Resolutions

Last week, the European Union (EU) Parliament called on Tanzania to take several steps, including resolving what they called a politically motivated case against an opposition party leader, granting more political freedom through dialogue, making changes to election laws, respecting the right of parties to participate in free elections.

Furthermore, the EU, through its Parliament, called on Tanzania to stop harassing opposition politicians, human rights defenders, LGBTQ+ advocates, journalists, civil society organizations, etc.

Following these resolutions by the European Union, we, Hizb ut Tahrir / Tanzania say the following:

1. The resolutions of the European Union show the extent to which European countries continue with 'neo-colonialism' notion towards developing countries, including Tanzania. Some EU nations despite their black past of old colonialism which left significant damage, still continue their desire to interfere in the affairs of developing countries by making issues of some developing countries an agenda in their meetings and giving directives to those particular countries. When have the parliaments of developing countries ever sat and issued resolutions and given orders to their countries?

2. As for the European Union's call for 'political freedom, free election, electoral reforms as well as stopping harassment of the opposition'. Hizb ut Tahrir / Tanzania, while not agreeing with the evil system of democratic politics, also on humanitarian grounds does not agree with the harassment of any citizen whether is politician or ordinary citizen. However, it has to be clear to the European Union that the harassment of opposition, deception, fraud, oppression and etc. is innate within democratic system, of which EU is a stakeholder and a standard bearer, forcing and imposing it on developing countries. How can this system, built on the basis of 'interests', have justice, equality, and rights while it only considers one thing which have interests?

3. As for their call to support the advocacy of homosexuality and lesbianism, this is a sign of the bankruptcy of their democratic system in two ways: Firstly, it contradicts with human nature. Secondly, it makes humans a field for moral experiments, because initially they were against acts of homosexuality and lesbianism, but now they support and promote them. Furthermore, the issue of LGBTQ+ facing opposition in Africa and other parts is a sign of the unacceptability of their democratic system, because among the pillars of that system is 'individual freedom', which encourages these acts.

4. We ask the European Union, has their level of humanity been more concerned with the issue of Tanzania than with the genocide in Gaza? Who does not know that their countries provide all kinds of material, political and diplomatic assistance to the illegal entity of ‘Israel’ to facilitate the genocide. What kind of humanity of European Union, if not hypocrisy and double standard?

Finally, it must be understood that the European Union ideology is capitalism, a system of colonialism and exploitation, and their political concept of democracy is pure deception and betrayal. Through this lie (democracy), they are ready to support anyone who will guarantee their interests regardless of humanity, justice or the so-called human rights.

Enough is enough for every sane person to distance from democratic system to the Islamic system which upholds justice and fairness for all regardless of their religion, race, or geographical consideration.
