Trump’s Deal With Putin: Yet Another Blow to Europe
News:
On 9 October, the news agency, DW, reported: “On Friday, 9 October, US President Donald Trump announced ‘very successful’ talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which an agreement was reached on the supply of Russian diesel to the US and the global market. Trump posted this on the social media platform Truth Social.
According to Trump, “…this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST! Lower prices for Americans...”
On the same day, the US Treasury Department announced that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), acting on Trump’s orders, “is immediately issuing a temporary general licence authorising the supply of Russian diesel fuel to the global market”.
Comment:
Less than a month has passed since 19 September, when Trump signed into law the bill passed by Congress — the “Lindsey O. Graham Act of 2026 Imposing Sanctions on Russia and Iran”. On 2 October, the US urged G7 countries to release 100 million barrels of oil and diesel from their strategic reserves as a matter of urgency, in order to stabilise global prices. A week later, on 9 October, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued License No. 135, under which the US authorised itself to purchase Russian diesel fuel, circumventing the 2022 ban.
The latest US bills—first banning, and then permitting, the purchase of Russian hydrocarbons—have become further links in the chain aimed at weakening the European Union. The US has skillfully drawn Europe into the war against Russia, on Ukraine’s side. Through this war, America is profiting from arms sales and has taken control of the European energy market.
The US and the Jewish formation’s attack on Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which led to a shortage of hydrocarbons and caused oil prices on the world market to creep upwards, are being successfully exploited by America to its own advantage. By threatening some with sanctions and imposing tariffs on others who purchase Russian oil and gas, the US has effectively become the body that unilaterally regulates the sale of Russian energy resources.
Europe, for its part, has imposed a total embargo on the purchase of Russian oil and gas. Just a few days ago, on 12 October, the European Union introduced its 22nd package of sanctions. However, European countries’ hydrocarbon reserves are gradually running out, and the winter season is beginning. Europe is hypocritically purchasing Russian energy resources, circumventing its own sanctions. For example, from Türkiye and India, which refine Russian oil, whatever it may subsequently be called. Nevertheless, the raw material remains Russian oil, and everyone is well aware of this. The only thing is, people now have to pay extra and overpay for this commodity. And who, ultimately, profits from this? The US, of course.
Thus, America is making a fortune from the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the trade in energy resources, using Russia to its advantage. The longer the war lasts, the further the European Union moves away from Russian energy resources. That is why the US is trying to prolong the war, allowing Russia to trade in hydrocarbons both directly and through intermediaries, in order to rebuild its military and economic capabilities.
Such a hypocritical war and the policies of the world’s powerful show that they are fighting amongst themselves, whilst the countries under their control serve as their battlefield. As long as these disbelieving powers rule the world, fear and chaos will reign.
