News Right Now: Shedding Skin
The world continues to look on as Syria moves forward in freedom from the brutality of the Assad regime. Since the rebels were able to successfully liberate the capital, Damascus, the people of Syria have had hope for a future that is bright in the name of Allah (swt). The Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham party has also since taken responsibility for this revolution, despite its leader, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, expressing that he would be willing to dissolve his group once the revolution is achieved.
Ahmad al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, has been meeting with various leaders from different nations in the past few weeks. These meetings have consisted of vague, conciliatory, and diplomatic language with some of the largest and worst enemies of Islam. According to the financial times, “Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, condemned what he called Israel’s “flimsy” excuses for its air strikes but said the rebels must not get distracted from rebuilding the country, according to an interview published by the pro-opposition Syria TV.” In another quote from the Middle East Monitor, it states, “On relations with Israel, Al-Jolani said Syria will not fight the occupation state, explaining that with Iranian forces and Hezbollah no longer in the country, Israel has no reason to keep attacking. He urged the UN and the international community to make sure Israel follows international law.” In addition, he has been pleading for all sanctions against Syria which were imposed under Bashar al-Assad’s rule to be lifted. He has promised no harm to come to Russian bases on Syrian soil as long as they didn’t attack. In multiple meetings with Western nations, he has repeated that Syria will not pose a threat to Western countries.
The suffering of our brothers and sisters of Syria did not occur for such statements to be made to some of the worst enemies of Islam. The sacred blood of our Ummah was not shed for the sake of diplomatic relations with the West. Our mothers tears were not exhausted for this- the true aims and motives of the revolution have always been for the return of the light of Islam as a comprehensive system to reach all ends of this Earth, The people of Syria have always called for the return of the implementation of true Islam to guide and rule the people through Allah (swt’s) hudood. But this is not what we are seeing through these statements made by Al-Sharaa. Instead we are seeing an attitude of compromise and consolation to the Western powers.
Allah (swt) says in Surat Al-Baqarah, Verse 120:
"Never will the Jews or Christians be pleased with you, until you follow their faith. Say, “Allah’s guidance is the only ˹true˺ guidance." And if you were to follow their desires after ˹all˺ the knowledge that has come to you, there would be none to protect or help you against Allah.
Compromise with the enemies of Allah (swt) will never benefit this Ummah. Al-Sharaa has made appeals to the useless United Nations for assistance in rebuilding Syria and holding “Israel” accountable to international law. How many times have we seen the UN stand idly by in the face of immense and unbearable suffering? How many times have our brothers and sisters been betrayed by this so-called international law, which is just another tool for the western powers to exert and reinforce their control in global politics and How many times have we heard countless stories in our Islamic history where we were met with enemy forces so large and strong in might, but that Allah (swt) sent down his Nasr and the Muslims were victorious?
Allah (swt) teaches us very clearly in [Verse 47:7]:
[يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡۤا اِنۡ تَـنۡصُرُوا اللّٰهَ يَنۡصُرۡكُمۡ وَيُثَبِّتۡ اَقۡدَامَكُمۡ]
"O you who have believed, if you support Allah , He will support you and plant firmly your feet."
We have no reason to fear the “powers” of the enemy forces. They serve no threat in the face of the numerous promises of Allah (swt) to our Ummah where HE (swt) urges us to stand by Him, with glad tidings of success and victory. When we have the promise of the Creator of the Worlds, there is no need for any other entity’s help. The ultimate success of Muslims in Syria and across the world lies in the establishment of the Khilafah Rashidah by adhering to the method of the Prophet (saw), standing firm and uncompromising against adversity as he did, affirming our faith in Allah’s promise of victory so long as we seek HIS (swt) pleasure and not the West’s.
