News Right Now: Kill & Capture

For nearly 20 years, NATO Allies had military forces deployed to Afghanistan under a United Nations mandate after the 9/11 attacks on the United States. The free reign forces have had for killing on foot, by air and by drone strikes since then has seen tens of thousands Afghan civilians displaced , maimed and killed. As well as hundreds if not thousands of incidents of mistaken identity, and innocent children and bystanders killed in cold blood, in their homes, farms and at wedding parties.

After four years of painstaking investigative journalism akin to detective work, a BBC panorama report recently revealed new evidence regarding the killings of an Afghan family by British special forces in 2012. A mother and father were bombed in their own homes and their small child (one of 5 children) was severely wounded. The subsequent investigation uncovered a systemic policy in military operations to kill innocent Afghans and fabricate that they were involved in terrorist activity. One soldier was found to have killed 54 people over the course of his 6 months duty.

Over the years the UK government has quietly paid out for the deaths of at least four times as many Afghan children than it has previously admitted to for the period between 2006-2014. Thousands of women and children have been caught in these attacks is the lasting legacy of colonialist military action in Muslim lands. There are terrifying and explicit accounts of exactly how people are surprised whilst undertaking their normal daily routines. There is no consideration to the vulnerability of the elderly or babies. So when eight members of the same Afghan family were killed in a coalition airstrike on a village in the Nawa district of Helmand in May 2009, the MoD paid the family around $8,000, affirming their imperialist view of the cheapness of an Muslim life.

The fact that every few years there are scores of new revelations of yet more war crimes, proves that the system is working just as the western governments want it to work. The British military does not feel accountable for any deaths recorded as ‘in suspicious circumstances’ or as ‘unlawful killings. It has no choice but to launch inquiries into reports that its special forces carried out masses of extrajudicial killings in Afghanistan following widespread outcry across the world.

Rather, the arrogance and superiority complex of the West and its misplaced savior complex, which is ridden with racism, ignorance, intolerance and a deep and historic hatred of Islam, is what drives the military forces to so easily kill the innocent in cold blood. The absence of the Islamic state in this last century has enabled the west and countries like India and China to dehumanize Muslims to such an extent that killing Muslims is wholly acceptable, agreeable and even natural to them.

The huge numbers of deaths and illegal incursions, reordered in Afghanistan and indeed all over the Muslim and Arab world where such atrocities have taken place en masse, the news of unjust killings, mistaken identities and indeed corruption and purposeful attacks will continue to surface. Just as in Iraq so many incidents of US soldiers saw the massacres of innocent women, men and children in homes and villages across the country some years ago. Muslims must be aware that our lives and status will never be secure in the current climate of Western imperialism and the savagery it has brought to the world. So call for/and take intelligent steps towards the reestablishment of the Islamic authority, the Khilafah on the way of the Prophethood, to obliterate the forces of kufr and secularism and remind the world once again of the real value of a Muslim’s blood and honor.
