News Right Now: Insults will Continue

Welcome to News Right Now: Insults Will Continue

The author Salman Rushdie has survived a deadly attack. The suspect stabbed the author due to his controversial novel, "The Satanic Verses." He was surprised after learning that Rushdie survived the attack. He added his knowledge of Rushdie came more from videos he had watched of him: "I saw a lot of lectures. I don't like people who are disingenuous like that." "I don't like him. I don't like him very much. He's someone who attacked Islam, he attacked their beliefs, the belief systems."

Ayatollah Khomeini issued a $3 million bounty for Rushdie's life, forcing the author to go into hiding and needing police protection. He received many death threats and due to the calling for his death he went into hiding and was given round-the-clock protection by the British government from 1989 to 2002. He moved to the US in 2000 and Iran no longer declared the longing for his death.

The contradictions that are so obvious to all Muslims, yet secularists appear to be blind to, are due to the differing interests of the secular elite and the ordinary Muslim. In fact the interests of the ordinary citizen in the West hardly congrue with those of their elite masters, yet any attempt to expose this rift is ironically met with harsh limitations on such speech.

Legislation is employed and more is being written to curtail and ban all manner of speech that goes against the interests of the elite few, yet freedom to insult and denegrade Islam and Muslims is oddly the exception, despite it being spiteful and hateful in character and motivation.

It is as though one is free to speak, unless it is a Muslim speaking, who is highlighting the contradictions in the theory and practice of free speech in the West. The freedom to insult is not a progressive characteristic of an advanced civilization, rather it is a lowly by-product of an ideology incapable of managing difference. Secularism has no criteria for determining what should and should not be said, so it relies on the democratic process to allow one view to dominate and oppress all others, simply because it has a larger hoard of supporters (manipulated or otherwise) on any given day.

Muslims should not support the notion of mob-rule that is embodied in democracy, nor should we defend the failed notion of free speech, Muslims are believers in the truth and should not be ashamed to promote it and call for its honourable values. Islam is not in need of validation by an intellectually bankrupt secular ideology; the sublime Islamic culture speaks for itself as a witness to the superiority of it over all other thought and ideology.

“It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to show that it is above all [other] religions, even though the idolaters hate it.” [TMQ As-Saff :9]

The insult to Islam and Prophet Muhammad (saw) will continue simply because of the hatred of Islam though “freedom of speech/expression” which is always being used as the reason to continue doing so. The freedom of speech continues only when that hate speech is used against Muslims or Islam. However, it becomes hate speech when it is used to boycott the crimes of the criminal Jewish entity, or the LGBQT community.

Insults to Islam and our beloved Prophet (saw) will never be stopped or prevented by western law or individuals. These insults will come to an end only when the Khilafah Rashida is established on the method of the Prophethood. Individuals will not dare to insult as seen in 1890, the French Prime Minister Charles de Freycinet banned the anti-Islamic play called “Mahomet”, written by Henri de Bornier, a French poet and dramatist after opposition from the Khilafah.

The Ummah must react to protect the honour of our Prophet ﷺ. This man-made system and laws have failed miserably to protect our honour. The rulers have not acted in accordance with Islam. Demonstrations and marches by the Muslims as a response to the insults of the Prophet ﷺ in order to express our anger towards those who insult the Messenger of Allah ﷺ are highly desirable, but these are not enough. The Ummah must move towards re-establishing the second Khilafah Rashidah (Rightly Guided Caliphate) which will restore our honour and will give no room for the haters and enemies of Islam to insult our Prophet ﷺ or to infringe upon the Muslims’ values and sanctity.

Let us as an Ummah remind ourselves the strength we have when we are united under the banner of Islam and work for the Khilafah Rashida upon the method of the Prophethood.
