Dawah around the World: What it Means to be Muslim
Assalamu Alaykum WRWB
Welcome to todays episode of Dawah around the World – What it means to be a Muslim.
Hizb ut Tahrir Australia held a very inspiring event entitled ‘What does it mean to be a Muslim?’
Today when Islam is openly and consistently targeted, often put on the docks, this much needed event highlighted what it truly means to overcome these challenges! Stressing the importance of fulfilling all aspects in being a holistic Muslim who succeeds in all his responsibilities, regardless of all the obstacles that are placed in the way.
The event comprised of two talks. Talk 1 entitled “The ideal Muslim we should aspire to be” – was delivered by Brother Muhammad Trad where he defined the role of a Muslim.
He went on to explain, what our aspirations should be and how those aspirations with these different roles and obligations would make one an ideal personality.
Talk two, entitled ‘Challenges in the face of fulfilling this aspiration, both external and internal’ was done by Brother Hamza Qureshi who looked to how exactly can we be this ideal Muslim in this current day and age, living in the West, where everything works against us and the ideals we aim to reach. Be it family, professional work or Community/Dawah work there are always challenges that we face – so it is not easy to be that complete Muslim!
Sadly, the reality is that it’s a matter of survival if you live in the West. To have a standard quality of life – that lifestyle has been hijacked by the interests of work, forcing one to make work his priority - shifting our reference point from Islamic ideals to Western ideals! Unfortunately this is what has caused so much imbalance and struggle in the life of the Muslim and caused many obstacles in achieving the Islamic ideals reflecting from the life our beloved SAW and the sahaba RadiyAllah anhum!
We pray Allah SWT grants us the correct environment and a pure atmosphere to truly reach the ultimate ideals and aspirations that would earn us the pleasure of Allah SWT.
Ameen
