 Press Release
The Women’s Section in the Central Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir Concludes its Global Campaign: "Sudan's War: A Story of Colonialism, Betrayal & Deception"

Over the past two months, the Women’s Section in the Central Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir have run a global campaign to raise international awareness and bring an international spotlight to the horrific humanitarian crisis created by the conflict in Sudan which has been raging now for three and a half years. This senseless conflict, between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) headed by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Hemedti”), has been described as “The Forgotten War” due to not receiving the media coverage and global attention it deserves.

The campaign, entitled, "Sudan's War: A Story of Colonialism, Betrayal & Deception", addressed the following subjects:

1. The catastrophic humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict that has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, including women and children, and has created the world’s largest displacement and hunger crisis, with starvation being used as a weapon of war by the various parties, as well as abductions, torture, ethnic cleansing, and widespread sexual violence including mass rape being reported;

2. The history of how Islam entered Sudan through peaceful propagation and shaped the political, judicial, administrative and economic life of the country, and created a prosperous life for its people, for example under the Funj Sultanate;

3. The huge geopolitical importance of Sudan, such as its strategic location bordering the Red Sea – a vital global maritime trade route, as well as its abundant fertile agricultural land and natural resources – including oil, natural gas, gold and uranium. All this has made it a prize for international and regional powers who have vied with each other for dominance and control of the country, including supporting various factions within wars – past and present;

4. How Western colonial powers, such as Britain, France and America, historically laid the foundation for conflict in Sudan through their ‘divide and rule’ colonial policy which fostered tensions and divisions between various ethnic, tribal and religious communities – all to secure their interests and influence in the country. This external political interference caused Sudan to be in a perpetual state of conflict from the time of its independence from British colonial rule till today;

5. What life was like under the dictatorship of Omar al-Bashir - the terror, brutal repression, severe economic hardship and civil war people faced under his rule as well as his manipulation of the Shariah to justify his abuse of those opposing his rule. And how both General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (“Hemedti”) were his henchmen and are remnants of his regime;

6. The politics of Sudan’s past conflicts such as the North-South Civil War and the Darfur conflict and how they were the result of British colonial rule, American interference within the land, and the rule of Omar al-Bashir – all of which stoked divisions between people for political gain;

7. The politics of the current Sudan conflict which in reality is a power struggle between the agents of America (al-Burhan and Hemedti) and Britain (Forces for Freedom & Change) for dominance in Sudan following the toppling of Omar al-Bashir in 2019. The fighting has also been fueled by various regional powers such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Russia and China who are backing one side over another for a stake in the land’s riches and strategic importance;

8. How only the Khilafah (Caliphate) can bring glory to Sudan. This point addressed how the Framework Agreement is a colonial-inspired product based on Western beliefs and culture, aimed at creating a democratic, federal, parliamentary, secular state in which laws are made by the people rather than extracted from the Qur’an and Sunnah. This seeks to distance the Muslims of Sudan from their Deen and will only lead Sudan down another path of failure and division as has been the case in both western countries and the Muslim lands. Rather, only the Khilafah (Caliphate) State based upon the method of the Prophethood which implements the Laws and System of Allah (swt) in its entirety can end colonial interference in Sudan and bring success in political, economic, social and all spheres of life, remove divisions and unite its people and army, and create political leaders who are guardians of their citizens.

The campaign included intensive global social media engagement in various languages and countries, including the publishing of dozens of articles, hundreds of social media posts and posters, and a number of videos, including the following:

“How Islam Entered Sudan” - https://www.dailymotion.com/video/k3hfUPAabl5GIYDJkJU

“Sudan’s War: Gold, Guns and Geopolitics” - https://dai.ly/k2G7j01TKZtlGMDRRK8

“Only the Khilafah Can Bring Glory to Sudan” - https://dai.ly/k1itSmPUE2cOeHDU5wQ

It also included panel discussions in Arabic and English explaining the causes and consequences of the current conflict, and how the Khilafah system, rather than the democratic model, would practically solve the many problems Sudan faces.

Although the campaign has now concluded, the Women’s Section in the Central Media Office of Hizb ut Tahrir will continue to raise awareness regarding the politics, agendas and consequences of Sudan’s conflict as well as the means to end the suffering of its people, solve their problems and build a brighter future for their land under the Khilafah state.
