Canada Is Not a Safe Haven for Muslim Women - No Liberal Democracy Is!
News:
On 14 October 2026, the City of Vaughan faced significant social media backlash after raising a flag outside City Hall to mark Islamic Heritage Month. The Muslim Women of Vaughan, a local non-profit group founded in 2020, requested the flag-raising. While many residents criticised the move on Facebook, calling for only the Canadian flag to fly and expressing concerns over community division, the city has previously hosted similar events, including Pride flag raisings, flying the ‘Israeli’ flag for Independence Day, and raising the Iranian Lion and Sun flag. The city is currently reviewing its community programming guidelines to balance cultural expression with community unity.
Comment:
Their idea of asking for a flag to be raised as a means of empowerment reflects how lost the Muslim women have become in their vision for worship and obedience to Quran and Sunnah. The ideological contradiction between having flags representing Haram viewpoints in life on the same platform as the noble, enlightened system of Islam is a humiliation and nothing to be proud of.
“And thus We have made you a just and best community that you may be witnesses over mankind and the Messenger [Muhammad] be a witness over you” [TMQ Al-Baqara: 143].
These token gestures are far from the correct thinking of Islamic leaders, who should be witnesses to humankind and serve as an example for progress and solving humanity's problems. This is a narrow vision of localism, not the Prophet's (saw) expansionist mindset. There was never an idea for the noble Sahaba (ra) to ask for anything from the non-believers, only to guide them to the truth of Islam and help them see the error, false worship and deviation from the correct purpose in life.
There is also a fundamental problem of awareness of what progress for Muslim women actually is. It is not superficial symbols or acts of theatrical entertainment. It is the revival of the Islamic system that implements all of the solutions of the Qur'an and Sunnah without compromise. This can only be complete and perfected in the exact manner that the Prophet (saw) showed the Ummah in the form of the Khilafah (Caliphate) State. It is not permissible to have non-Islamic systems in authority over the affairs of the believers, and flags are far from the real expression of what Islam offers humanity in protecting life and honour. The Muslim women of Canada and beyond should rethink what they see as relevant and allowed in their pursuit of Jannat (Heaven) and seeking solutions for their identity in Islam.
