The Islamic Ummah Needs Khilafah, Not a NATO Style Defence Pact

On 9^th January 2026 the Bloomberg first reported that Türkiye seeks a membership to Pakistan Saudi-Pakistan defence pact which was signed on 17 September 2025 at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh, by Saudi crown prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani prime minister Shehbaz Sharif. The news of a likely Pakistan-Saudi- Türkiye defence pact got a lot of attention in Pakistan and many described it as the beginning of Muslim world military alliance, like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a military alliance of 30 European and two North American states, America and Canada, founded after World War Two to defend the western capitalist nations from the expansion of communism under the leadership of Soviet Union.

It will be inflicting delusion on ourselves if we believe that Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye have started to make this defense deal on their own, without the consent of the US. Türkiye is a NATO member and had signed a strategic mechanism in April 2024 focusing on defense, economic cooperation energy, trade, counterterrorism, and regional stability.

Saudi Arabia has a long security relationship history with the US since. The 1974 US-Saudi agreement, often called the Petrodollar Deal, established a strategic partnership where the US provided military aid and protection, and in return, Saudi Arabia priced its oil sales exclusively in US dollars, investing surplus revenue into US Treasury bonds, solidifying the dollar’s global dominance and financing US deficits. Prince Sultan Air Base (PSAB) is an active United States Air Force Air Expeditionary Base operating in Saudi Arabia and assigned to the U.S. Air Forces Central Command. In November 2025, America announced that Saudi Arabia a major non-NATO ally (MNNA) of the United States during a visit by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Washington, DC.

And Pakistan has always been a close US ally whether in the days of Cold War in the last century, or during the so called “War against Terror” in this century. At the moment the “favorite Field Marshal” of Trump is Asim Munir, whilst Pakistan nominated Trump, the butcher of Gaza, for a Nobel peace prize.

So practically defence pact between Pakistan-Saudi Arabia-Türkiye is actually a pact between three American agents to secure American interest in the Muslim world.

Let us, for the time being, put aside the fact that the leadership of these three countries are American agent, even then there are fundamental problems in this pact. First problem is that the signatory of this pact are nation states, and their prime responsibility is to protect the interests of their respective nation state, not the interests of Islam and its Ummah. So, if the interests of these three nation states coincide, they will move to fulfill the requirements of the defence pact, otherwise they will remain idle. The second problem is that these three countries always align their foreign policy to achieve the foreign policy objectives of the US. These three countries have been watching the massacre of the Muslims of Palestine by the Jewish entity, which is fully supported by the United States of America. Despite frequent calls from the oppressed Muslims of Gaza, and the general Muslim masses, to mobilize their armed forces to end the oppression and uproot the Jewish entity, they have not moved their armed forces to fulfill their Shariah obligation as it is not in their “national interest”. However, as soon Trump announced his 20 point plan for Gaza, which is actually to secure Jewish entity from any further armed resistance from the Muslims of Palestine, these three countries endorsed it and offered their troops to be sent to Gaza, to implement this plan. as it is in their national interest to please America.

The Islamic Ummah has a strong desire of becoming a one single political entity, which is a Shariah obligation. However, after the fall of Khilafah this desire was misdirected through the creation of Arab league and OIC. As the Ummah has come out of the delusion and now Muslims curse these organizations, as they never take stands to protect the interests of the Ummah, and instead support the American initiatives. So now a news deception has been made; a military alliance of three large Muslim countries, which may become a foundation stone of making a Muslim military alliance just like NATO.

We must know that our Aqeedah, our Noble Quran, the honor of the Messenger of Allah (saw), our sanctities and the blood of the Muslims can only be protected by establishing the Khilafah (Caliphate) on the Method of the Prophethood. The Khilafah state is a state of all Muslims based only on the Islamic Aqeedah. The Khilafah state will eradicate nationalistic borders made by the colonialist Kafir states and so unify Muslim lands and their armed forces under the single command of the Khaleefah, making the armed forces of the Khilafah the largest and the most powerful armed forces of the world, that no one will dare to challenge. This is only way forward.
