THE MIRAGE OF TANZANIA DEVELOPMENT VISION 2050
News:
On July 17, 2025, Tanzania launched its National Development Vision 2050 at the Jakaya Kikwete Convention Centre in Dodoma, termed it as historic milestone for the country’s socio-economic transformation over the next 25 years.
Comment:
‘Tanzania Development Vsion 2050’, that seeks to transform Tanzania into a high-income, resilient, just, and inclusive society by 2050 is the successor of the outgoing deluded Tanzania's Development Vision 2025, which was created in 1999 with several aims — among them to achieve a high-quality livelihood for all citizens. Unfortunately, the said targets of vision 2025 proved futile and rather brought over more problems to poor, helpless people.
The issue of achieving quality livelihood to all citizens became a hollow slogan with opposite results. In 2000, the basic need poverty line was 35.7%, while in 2024, the poverty line was raised to 43% according to International Monetary Fund and the World Bank respectively. Not to mention existence of other socio-economic factors that frustrated economic activities, such as forced disappearances and abductions especially from 2017.
As its successor, the vision 2050 would likely be similar to the predecessor — it would end up as a day dreaming project.
There have been many plans, strategies, visions, etc. since Tanzania gained her independence in 1961, such as the Tanzania Development Plan (1964-1981), Tanzania Development Plan (1981-1994), etc. Yet none of them achieved any tangible impact for the community. In contrary, all these plans and visions are nothing but colonial blueprints from western colonial masters targeting exploitation of poor countries’ resources and not to develop them.
The Vision 2025, for example, was set to achieve global colonial ‘Millennium Development Goals’, while the Vision 2050 is set to achieve global colonial ‘Sustainable Development Goals’.
Developing countries such as Tanzania, in spite of having bestowed abundant resources, would never develop through these colonial crafted plans and so called ‘visions’, as we are all witnessing for years.
What is needed for developing nations is radical, ideological change, from evil capitalism to the fair and just ideology of Islam. Under the global Islamic Caliphate (Khilafah) state, poor, oppressed, and exploited countries would be liberated from the shackles of western colonialism and exploitation, and instead be provided with sincere, realistic, and sound economic plans and visions which target justice and prosperity for all.
