Q&A: The complicity of the Pakistani regime in the assassination of bin Laden

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Question: There are conflicting reports about the criminal assassination of bin Laden, both in statements from America and Pakistan. Some of these statements indicate that this operation was with the knowledge of the Pakistani regime and its cooperation, and some statements deny it in whole or in part.

Please clarify the opinion in this matter, and if it has been done with cooperation, would that mean that the zero hour for the operation had been identified in consultation with the regime in Pakistan? May Allah reward you.

Answer: There are strong indications that the operation happened with the knowledge and cooperation of the Pakistani regime in terms of providing intelligence to American authorities for the implementation of the operation.

Some of these indicators are:

1- The holding of an extraordinary meeting between ISAF Commander Gen Petraeus and Gen Kayani at an unusual location i.e. Chaklala Airbase on April 25th 2011. The same night Gen Petraeus had a teleconference session with a White House meeting chaired by President Barack Obama.

The very next day, Pakistan’s top military coordination body – Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee – held its quarterly session, which was attended amongst others by ISI Chief Gen Shuja Pasha, who otherwise isn’t a regular member of the body. The meeting was unscheduled.

Obama hinted at this meeting when he announced the death of Osama: “And finally, last week, I determined that we had enough intelligence to take action, and authorized an operation to get Osama Bin Laden and bring him to justice.”

2- This together with the fact that Bin Laden was residing in Bilal Town situated in an army cantonment area, in close proximity to the Pakistani Military Academy, surrounded by military checkpoints.

3- Zardari’s denial of any involvement in the operation However, he admitted that the bilateral cooperation facilitated the assassination. Zardari stated in the Washington Post: “Although the events of Sunday were not a joint operation, a decade of cooperation and partnership between the United States and Pakistan led up to the elimination of Osama bin Laden as a continuing threat to the civilized world.”

4- Obama’s statement, who also tried to keep the Pakistani involvement in the assassination hidden. But Obama acknowledged that Pakistani cooperation is what helped to know the whereabouts of bin Laden, “But it’s important to note that our counter-terrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead us to Bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding,” Obama said.

5- Most of the important Al Qaeda operatives such as Abu Faraj al-Libbi, Khalid Shiekh Mohammed, Ahmed Khalfan Ghailani were apprehended in similar localities i.e. in posh areas close to military establishments or in secure surroundings. And these high value al Qaida figures were handed over to the US.

Accordingly, the Pakistani regime is mired up to its ears in the assassination, but it is not necessarily so that it was informed of the zero hour set by the United States for the assassination. The role of the Pakistani regime was that of the spy, who provides the essential information to his master to kill the victim and to determine the zero hour. Whether the spy is informed of the zero hour or not is immaterial for the spy is already cheap enough!

Finally, we draw the attention of the people of Pakistan in general, and the Pakistani army in particular, that the survival of this regime is the crux of the disease and the bane of Pakistan. It will not stop at complicity in the assassination of Bin Laden, may Allah have mercy on him and grant him Janah, but the regime will continue to shed the blood of Muslims. The Shar’i obligation is to uproot this regime and establish the Khilafah in its place, in order for Islam and Muslims to be honored and the Kuffar be humiliated.

وَاللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَى أَمْرِهِ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

“And Allah hath full power and control over His affairs; but Most among Mankind know it not.” (Surah Yusuf 12:21)
